Honey Butter Garlic Shrimp

  • 1 pound large raw shrimp deveined
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Vegetable oil for frying shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons honey to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Chopped cilantro or green onions for garnish


  • In a bowl, coat the shrimp evenly with cornstarch.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil. Fry the shrimp until golden on each side, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry in batches if necessary.
  • Remove the shrimp and set aside. Drain excess oil from the pan and return it to the stove.
  • Over medium heat, add olive oil, butter, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, honey, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and rice vinegar to the skillet. Stir and simmer. Once simmering, add 2 more tablespoons of butter and mix well.
  • The sauce will thicken. Add the shrimp back into the skillet and toss until coated evenly with the sauce.
  • Remove from heat, garnish with cilantro or green onions, and serve hot!
